Serving Children

From providing guidance through professional mentorship programs to giving support through education and career assistance opportunities, Primera takes a pro-active stance in promoting, encouraging and enhancing the development of today's youth.

Chicago Public Schools – "Real Men Read" Program
Real Men Read is a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) program that brings men into City schools to read to students for one hour each month. As stated on the CPS website: "CPS Real Men Read has a four-fold purpose: 1) To show students who real men are, that real men do in fact read and that real men value education. 2) To encourage and improve literacy skills of our students. 3) To provide mentoring opportunities for men with CPS students. 4) To demonstrate the importance of student achievement and community partnerships."

Primera's President, Michael DeSantiago, has taken a deep and personal interest in this very valuable program. He is a volunteer " MENtor" and a regular reader at Rosario Castellanos Middle Elementary on the southwest-side of Chicago. Mr. DeSantiago says, "I am thrilled to have this opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of these children."

Francisco I. Madero Middle School
After completing work on Madero Middle School in Chicago's Little Village Neighborhood, Primera wanted to give back to this community. Working with school officials, we developed a mentoring program that provides students with an insider's view of our profession. In addition to speaking at the school, our employees host students at our offices, where they're paired with a volunteer who shows them what a career in our field is all about.

Arquitectos
Arquitectos is a non-profit organization that unites architects to promote professionalism and economic development, as well as serve as a guide to young architects and students. Primera works with Arquitectos by volunteering for and sponsoring key events as well as assisting with the organization's professional guidance and career assistance programs.

ACE Mentoring Program
The architecture Construction and Engineering mentor program was founded by the principals of leading design and construction firms to introduce high-school students to career opportunities in our industry. Primera is proud to team up with other firms in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry to promote the program, working directly with students to introduce them to the broad range of people, projects and possibilities within our field.

The Boys and Girls Club of America
Incorporated in 1902, the Club serves nearly 15,000 children and young adults by providing a safe haven in which to have fun while learning new skills. Primera supports the Boys and girls Club by serving on the Logan Square Board of Directors and volunteering at a variety of events.
