Sustainable design involves the development and application of integrated, whole-building design solutions that create energy efficient buildings, deplete fewer natural resources, generate less waste, and provide healthy indoor environments for the building occupants. The industry standard for measuring sustainability is provided by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.
Primera employs several individuals who are LEED® Accredited Professionals from multiple disciplines - architecture, mechanical, electrical, civil and commissioning. This multi-discipline approach sets us apart due to the holistic approach of the project's sustainable design strategy. This approach also makes us uniquely qualified to shepherd a project through the LEED® certification process.
Primera's capabilities and expertise cover all categories of sustainable building design. These services include commissioning of HVAC systems, energy modeling, materials selections, design of energy recovery systems including combined heat and power (CHP) systems, design of renewable energy systems including solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, day-lighting designs, design of dedicated outdoor air ventilation systems for effective ventilation and improved indoor air quality, design of low-flow water fixtures and water reclamation systems.
The firm is an active member of the Chicago Chapter of U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), an organization that administers the LEED® Green Building Rating System - a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for sustainable buildings.
